[House of the Week]

What: Five bedrooms, 4.5 baths in 7,400 square feet on 80 acres.

Where: Oklahoma City, 13 miles northwest of downtown

Amenities: Two wet bars, three fireplaces, wine cellar, media room, swimming pool attached to the house. Three-bedroom, two-bath guest house, two barns, creek, pond.

Asking Price: $1.5 million

Opening Bid*: $1.25 million

Agent: Douglas Lewis, Keesee & Co., (405) 842-8841

Due Diligence: Larry and Mary Block are selling this two-story French country-style house so they can move closer to their daughter in Arkansas. The deal includes two barns, one of which the Blocks have used regularly for square dancing with members of their church. The couple, both retired physicians, bought the house in 1976 for $325,000. Since then, the Blocks fenced the property and cross-fenced to create grazing paddocks and built a barn (they own four show horses). They also added an enclosed swimming pool and installed outdoor irrigation and sprinkler systems. These additions and others cost about $750,000. The house has a silo-like structure on the front facade (inside is a pantry, sewing room and bath), imported Italian tiles in the foyer and gallery, and cedar beams, after a bank seized it from the cash-strapped owner who had built the home a year earlier.

*The opening bid is Weekend Journal's estimate of a reasonable starting point for negotiations to buy the property, based on past sales, prevailing market conditions and interviews with local real-estate experts.
