Due Diligence: This prefab, contemporary house was designed and built for just over $1 million in June 2004 by Anderson Anderson Architects, a firm based in Seattle and San Francisco specializing in prefabricated residential design and building homes in difficult locations. (Prefabricated homes are built mostly off-site.) Forest protected by the state surrounded the house, on the side of Mount Jordan. Local artists designed some of the home's contemporary interiors, including woodworker Noah Israel, who built the wood-and-steel staircase that runs through the center of the home. Brian Stephens and Dennis Coons planned the landscaping, and artist Constantin Hapaianu created some of the home's custom furnishings, such as a large rock set on a steel base that serves as a desk and a living-room table carved from stone; they can be negotiated in the sale. The home's owner, lawyer Scott Stafne, says he plans to build another house in the area when this one sells.
