Due Diligence: The late architect Philip Johnson designed this single-level structure in 1950, with help from Landis Gores, a partner at Mr. Johnson's architectural firm. Mr. Johnson, who died in January 2005, planned the Hodgson house in the International style that he helped champion in the U.S. The home, completed in 1951, is set on a ridge and is near Glass House, a glass-and-steel home Mr. Johnson designed for himself in 1949 and where the Pritzker Prize-winning architect spent the last years of his life. Silicon Valley pioneer Richard Hodgson and his wife, Geraldine, hired Mr. Johnson to design the home at a cost of about $62,000 including construction costs and designer fees, says the property's listing agent. The deceased couple's four children are selling the home, which won the first American Institute of Architects Honor Award in 1956 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Most rooms have floor-to-ceiling glass walls and doors and retain original brushed-nickel hinges, doorknobs and locks. Preservation easements protect the property from demolition and subdivision and restrict alterations, according to the listing agent.
