Due Diligence: This 2004 home is the only private residence in the U.S. by French designer Philippe Starck. Mr. Starck -- known for his hotel and restaurant interiors, furniture and consumer products -- designed the home for his friends Benjamin and Camilla Trigano. (Mr. Trigano, whose grandfather helped found Club Med, has done hotel projects with Mr. Starck; Mrs. Trigano runs the Taschen bookstore in Beverly Hills, another Starck design.) The Triganos had bought the property for $650,000 in 2003 and torn down most of the existing house. Mr. Starck's home, which Mr. Trigano describes as "a stylish surf shack," features a 1,200-square-foot living area on the first floor. Living, dining and kitchen areas are defined by changes in color and elevation rather than by walls. Mr. Starck chose the wall colors -- pink in the bedrooms, and orange, lemon yellow and bright green in the common areas -- as well as the glossy white floors. The Triganos ask guests (and potential home-buyers) to remove their shoes when they visit.
