Due Diligence: Jimmy Shankle, who's a trucking-company owner and former baseball coach for the University of Texas, San Antonio, and his wife, Terri, bought this estate for $2.8 million five years ago and turned it into a sports compound for their family. (Their oldest son, Brooks, plays first base in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim minor-league system; their 13-year-old daughter, Blair, is a top-ranked junior tennis player; and their other children also play sports.) The couple -- Mr. Shankle also once played ball in the minor leagues -- put up an air-conditioned building with exercise facilities, a batting cage and the two tennis courts, and added a lighted outdoor tennis court, the golf course, a baseball diamond and an athletic field. The five-bedroom main house, built in the 1970s and renovated in 2000, wraps around a central patio and swimming pool, and looks over landscaped grounds with about 500 oak trees. The guest houses include a two-apartment duplex built for the Shankles' parents. Ms. Shankle said the family is selling in order to buy a larger property where their children can build their own houses.
