Median home prices rose 20% in the 18 months through March, but some cities are still affordable, says the Center for Housing Policy. Here are homes under $300,000 in three of the five cities CHP deems the most affordable.

  • Lima, Ohio
  • Saginaw Township, Mich.
  • Buffalo, N.Y.

PLACE/PRICE: Lima, Ohio / $295,000

PROPERTY TAX*: $3,652 per year

THE PROPERTY: 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths built in 1987

DESCRIPTION: This brick home with 2,648 square feet has a pergola, hot tub and brick patio. The master bedroom and bath has vaulted ceilings and the second-story foyer window has custom lead glass.

NOTABLE: Lima, located in northwest Ohio along I-75 with a population of about 41,000, was also once named by Reader's Digest as a best place to raise a family. The University of Ohio-Lima campus is here.
