The median price of a single-family home in California jumped 17% from last year to $540,900, according to the California Association of Realtors. Here is a look at three homes for about the state's median price.

  • Arleta, Calif.
  • San Diego, Calif.

PLACE/PRICE: Los Angeles, Calif./$525,000

PROPERTY TAX*: $3,235 per year

THE PROPERTY: 4 bedrooms, 2 baths built in 1921

DESCRIPTION: Originally a duplex, this 1,320-square-foot single-family home has a kitchen, living room and bath on both the upper level and lower level. The hardwood floors and electrical wiring have recently been upgraded or replaced.

NOTABLE: Located in the hills of Highland Park on a cul-de-sac, this two-story home with white-picket fence has a sloping backyard and a front porch with views of the Eagle Rock and mountains. There are also patios at the front and back.
