Penthouses are the crème de la crème of the condominium market -- and often, the most expensive. Situated at the top of a building, these homes frequently have expansive views, large amounts of living space and the latest and greatest in terms of amenities. Here's a look at three penthouse homes on the market, with prices that exceed $10 million.

  • New York
  • Los Angeles
  • Miami Beach, Fla.

PLACE/PRICE: New York/$15.9 million

PROPERTY TAX: $4,175 (current owner's payment)

THE PROPERTY: A 5,777-square-foot penthouse duplex at Fifth Avenue and 22nd Street with 5 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, and views of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building and Madison Square Park.

DESCRIPTION: There is an 80-foot expanse of greenhouse-style windows on the home's upper level, plus 41 additional large windows that fill the residence with light and offer a panorama of Manhattan. Other features include 19th-century architectural detail, two large foyers connected with a circular limestone staircase and a master-bedroom suite and bath.

NOTABLE: The residence is located in 170 Fifth Avenue, a historic landmark building once home to The Sohmer Piano Co. The private rooftop deck could be used for an entertaining area.
