Retreats in Destinations
Where Couples Tie the Knot

In honor of the coming Valentine's Day holiday, we take a look at homes in destinations rated by The National Association of Wedding Ministers as top wedding destinations.

  • St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands
  • Las Vegas, Nev.
  • Honolulu, Hawaii

PLACE/PRICE: St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands/$1.95 million

PROPERTY TAX: 1.25% on 60% of the property's assessed value

THE PROPERTY: A home on a hill with views of the Atlantic Ocean and the British Virgin Islands. The house is approximately 3,000 square feet on a half acre. It has two kitchens, four bedrooms and four full and a half baths.

DESCRIPTION: The house, which was built in 2004, is located in Windgate Estates, a 4.5-acre gated community. It's one of two homes built in the residential enclave, which is planned to have about five in all, says Lisa Curreri of Curreri & Co. Realtors of St. Thomas. The fourth bedroom is downstairs and has a private entrance, a full bathroom and a kitchen. The property, which is a five-minute drive to town, has a pool, a hot tub and a generator.

NOTABLE: The neighborhood is one of the few gated developments on the island -- something which "off-island buyers" find appealing, says Ms. Curreri. Similar homes on St. Thomas are priced from $1.5 million, she says. The sellers can ask for more because the contemporary West Indian-style home comes fully furnished and has ocean views, she says. The property is one of the few newly built houses on the island. Builders can't keep up with the demand for brand-new residences, she says. The market for homes and condominiums on St. Thomas is very strong, she says.
