Scottsdale, Ariz., Homes
That Are on the Golf Course
Scottsdale, Ariz., a popular golf destination, is home to at least 18 nationally known golf pros and more than 200 golf courses, according to the Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau. In the fourth quarter of 2005, the median price for an existing home in the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale area was $268,400, an increase of 48.9% from the same period the year before, the National Association of Realtors says. That was the biggest price gain among U.S. metro areas during that period, NAR says. Below is a sampling of three area houses situated directly on a green.
- $695,000/Scottsdale, Ariz.
- $799,999/Scottsdale, Ariz.
- $1.275 million/Scottsdale, Ariz.
PLACE/PRICE: $695,000/Scottsdale, Ariz.
PROPERTY TAX*: $1,724
THE PROPERTY: A single-level home on the fifth green of the Rees Jones-designed Legend Trail Golf Club, a public golf course in The Fairways at Legend Trail subdivision. The eight-year-old residence's 2,127 square feet contain two bedrooms and two full and one half baths on approximately a quarter acre.
DESCRIPTION: Both the kitchen and the family room overlook the course, and the property has panoramic views of the McDowell Mountains. There is a gas fireplace in the family room, a two-car garage, and desert landscaping in the front and back yards.
NOTABLE: The house is a second home for its owners, who use it fewer than 50 days a year, says listing agent Gerry Murdock of The Equitable Real Estate Company. Residences in this development are priced lower than other local golf-course properties because they are designed to be "affordable" vacation homes, he says. The number of Scottsdale-area houses on the market has risen this year as people put up their residences for sale to take advantage of higher real-estate prices, he says. In turn, the greater number of homes on the market has slowed price appreciation, he says.
